Ms. Pitcairn is an extremely
gifted violin virtuoso who performs internationally. She performs
in partnership with the legendary 1720 "Red Mendelssohn" Stradivarius
said to have inspired the Academy-Award winning film, "The Red
Violin." This
violin was bought for her at auction when she was sixteen years old
and the ownership remained secret while she studied with the world’s
greatest violin teachers. Nearly three decades later and only after
she felt fully ready did she emerge on the world’s stages as one
of today’s finest musicians in partnership with one of the world’s
most
extraordinary instruments.
From Ms. Pitcairn's website:
The historic violin was crafted in 1720 by Antonio Stradivari,
who lovingly made his instruments in his small shop in Cremona,
Italy centuries ago, and remains the most famous violin maker
of all time. Not long after its creation, the instrument appeared
to vanish from the radar screen; no one knows where or to whom
the violin belonged for more than 200 years, spawning any number
of historians, writers, journalists, critics as well as Canadian
filmmaker, Francois Girard, to speculate on the violin's mysterious
history. Girard's imaginative speculations became the narrative
for his beloved film, "The Red Violin."

finest instrument. Then hear about the modern day twists of destiny
that brought this violin into the hands of this charming, lively
and engaging virtuoso. This will be a night long remembered in Marin
County.
