Tobias Wolff

"Some of the most important classical music for me has been chamber music: Beethoven's 'Archduke,' Schubert's Trio No. 2 in Eb Major (Opus 100) and the 'Trout' Quintet. Two of my orchestral favorites are Beethoven's Violin Concerto and his 'Emperor' Concerto. I wore those records out when I was young.

. . . On a very different, very American note, I love Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue."

—Tobias Wolff

In honor of Tobias Wolff, we perform Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue in an all-Gershwin program on October 4 & 6, 2009.

Join Tobias Wolff and Alasdair Neale as Mr. Wolff discusses the musical influences in his life. Tobias Wolff's books include the memoirs This Boy's Life and In Pharaoh's Army, the short novel The Barracks Thief, the novel Old School, and four collections of short stories. He is the Ward W. and Priscilla B. Woods Professor of English at Stanford University.
