(You can also apply via mail using our downloadable MSYP Application Form).

Additional re-seating auditions will be held after the Winter Concert for the Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra only.

Below please find specific audition requirements and instructions for the Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra and Crescendo Orchestra. Note that the requirements for these two orchestras differ considerably. Please read the following information carefully.

CRESCENDO ORCHESTRA

Program Requirements:

Ages 10-17. Must study privately with a teacher and be involved in your school music program, if available.

Audition Requirements:

1. Scales - Crescendo applicants should perform 2 scales and arpeggios of your choice in as many octaves as you are comfortable (2 octaves recommended). One scale should be played with speed and accuracy and the other should be played slowly with the best tone possible.
String players should be able to demonstrate a variety of bow strokes, dynamics and articulation.

2. Prepared piece - Crescendo applicants should perform one solo piece that you have worked on with your teacher. You do not need to bring an accompanist.

3. Sight Reading - Crescendo applicants will be given music from the current Crescendo season at the audition and will be asked to try some of it out at the audition. This will give you the opportunity to see what music we will be doing, and if it is up to your current level.
