MARIN SYMPHONY CRESCENDO ORCHESTRA
Beginning to Intermediate Musicianship

The Marin Symphony Crescendo Program offers the opportunity for young musicians to learn standard orchestral ensemble techniques and develop their musicianship in a friendly and instructive environment. The Crescendo Orchestra is a full orchestral ensemble with combined strings, winds, brass, and percussion. The season follows the academic school year during which they perform a winter and spring concert. The repertoire includes upbeat and lively pops music, along with arrangements of standard orchestral selections.

Rehearsals: The Crescendo Orchestra rehearses weekly at the College of Marin (Kentfield campus), Fine Arts Building. Rehearsals are on Sundays from 1:00 – 2:40pm.

Requirements: Participant age ranges from 10 – 17. Students must be involved in a school music program and study privately with a teacher. *Players should demonstrate competence and facility on their instrument, in addition to the ability to read notes and rhythms accurately. Players will be required to perform scales up to 3 sharps and 3 flats in as many octaves as they are comfortable. Players should also be familiar with a variety of articulations, bow strokes, and dynamic control. For auditions, please prepare scales and a representative solo work from your teacher. Sight-reading will be given at the audition. |

Fellowship Tutelage: Crescendo members will have the opportunity to play alongside talented and experienced members of the Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra Fellowship Program on a weekly basis. The best way to learn is to sit next to someone more experienced and follow their lead! Additional Benefits : Members of the Crescendo Orchestra are granted free admission to all Marin Symphony concerts in Marin Center (Marin Symphony Holiday Concerts and Prelude Recitals exempted.) They also receive family member discounts entitling the purchase of two Marin Symphony concert tickets for the price of one. |

Tuition for 2010-11 season (both semesters) is $500 per student, payable in full by the first rehearsal in the fall.
